First, do not try to win it back by gambling or take new loans to cover old ones: that is what makes debt grow. List everything you owe, put housing and bills first, talk to creditors about payment plans and get free advice before signing anything. And tell someone.
First: stop it growing
Gambling debts tend to grow from the same idea: “one good run and I’ll sort it.” It is the most expensive trap of all, because every bet placed to win money back loses on average like any other. Stop gambling before anything else; the first steps are in How to stop gambling: what to do if you think you are addicted
And do not cover one debt with another. Payday loans, revolving credit and quick loans turn one problem into several, with interest that can exceed 20% a year.
Put the debt on the table
Make a full list. Who you owe, how much, at what interest and what you pay each month. Include family and friends.
Put essentials first. Housing, energy, water, food and anything with serious legal consequences come first.
Talk to creditors. Before you miss payments, ask for more time or a lower payment. It is often possible if you ask early.
Get advice before signing anything. Especially consolidation loans or companies promising to cancel debts.
Let someone help you with money. For a while, have someone you trust go through the accounts with you.

Rarely. Payday loans and quick credit carry very high interest and turn one debt into several. Consolidating only makes sense if the new loan is clearly cheaper, the gambling is under control and someone you trust reviews the terms with you.
Should I tell my family?
It is very hard, but it usually brings relief and nearly always helps. Hidden debts grow and come out at the worst moment. Telling them lets several people organise the money and gives you someone to help you stay away from gambling.
Where can I get free advice?
Free debt advice services exist in most countries: in the UK, StepChange and Citizens Advice; in Spain, consumer associations and bar association legal aid services. Be wary of anyone promising to make debts disappear for a fee.
